Melinda Summer has completed her new book “Until It Ends: A Story of Gender Dysphoria”: a powerful and illuminating faithful account of the author’s life struggling with gender dysphoria and how her experiences led her to share her story.
“This is my personal story about gender dysphoria,” Summer shares. “When I first heard the diagnosis of gender dysphoria for the first time in 2013, I knew that name identified what I had suffered from all my life. Apparently, I was not alone, and the world suddenly heard talk more about transgender people as so many people have started the process of becoming transgender. Some might call this sudden onset vocabulary.
“After decades of working in the field of nuclear medicine technology, reading scientific papers and attending symposia on current research, I began to read about the causes of gender dysphoria, its connection to intersex people (formerly called hermaphrodites) and, well, I was scared. The treatment is to become transgender to become happy and healthy. I’ve read current treatment articles and any other research I can find , as well as social media, so I know what to expect and allay my fears. Transitioning isn’t fun or easy, especially as a person ages. It’s best to start as young as possible. Since many many decades, psychologists know that a child usually knows what sex they are between the ages of four and seven. When bad puberty begins without treatment, many simply end their own life. e. I want to stop this. Everyone wants to stop this, I hope.
“On a daily basis, I explain nuclear medicine technology to patients in a way they can understand. I hope to use this experience to explain gender dysphoria and transgender people. I hope that through the education, more of society will understand us, not with pity, disdain, or hatred, but rather as individuals living our lives as happy and healthy as possible as three percent of the population. “
Published by Newman Springs Publishing, Melinda Summer’s hard-hitting account sheds light on a medical condition that many people don’t fully understand. Using her own experience to highlight her points, Summer shows the importance of allowing and supporting children to express their gender identity in the hope that they can find happiness and acceptance of what they are.
