Fix-A-Heart, the fundraising campaign partnership between participating Canadian Tire stores in Greater Victoria and the Heart Unit at Royal Jubilee Hospital, returns from November 24 to December 24.

Donate $ 1 at checkout when you make a purchase at View Royal, Hillside, or Royal Oak stores, and be part of the growing community of Islanders who have enabled the growth of technology to treat heart health.

Kim Reynhoudt, franchisee of View Royal, said that since the campaign began in 2003, nearly $ 740,000 has been raised for the purchase of state-of-the-art cardiac equipment. Proceeds from this year’s event are intended for the purchase of a headband, allowing doctors to perform higher-quality angiograms, the diagnostic test that produces high-definition images of the heart and blood vessels. Angiograms allow the cardiac team to determine the most effective treatment to save a patient’s life.

Dr Imad Nadra, interventional cardiologist at Jubilee Heart Health, says the availability of this equipment is important for multiple reasons.

“To attract world-class doctors and care, you need world-class equipment,” he said.

Reynhoudt echoed this statement: “They don’t waste money there. The people who run the heart unit have developed a first-rate unit. It is considered the best in North America, and doctors who want to teach and learn come from all over the world.

The campaign was personalized this year for Tracy MacSwan, an employee of View Royal, whose husband was treated for a cardiac arrhythmia at the Royal Jubilee Cardiac Unit.

“Over time I like to know that there will be equipment for me if I ever need it,” said MacSwan.

“The effort we are making today will provide equipment for the people of tomorrow, and to me that means a lot. “
