âIt’s extremely rewarding because I know how they feel,â Marquez said. âI was one of those kids.
This LA city firefighter says his parents divorced when he was young, and he knows what it’s like to wonder if there would be presents under the Christmas tree every year.
Through toy drives like Spark of Love, Marquez says his family received toys.

âI know what it has done for me and my family,â Marquez said. âSeven brothers and a single mom, so that’s very important. We woke up in the morning without expecting much, and our tree was full of toys. I remember being extremely surprised and happy.â
That’s why he runs the toy program for the Los Angeles Fire Department year after year. We met Marquez while he was helping to collect toys at our ABC7 Stuff-a-bus âevent in Canoga Park last week.
When not leading the toy donations, Marquez also had fun showing kids around fire trucks.
Her heart, soul and spirit of giving are also featured in ABC7’s “Spark of Love” campaign.
Marquez just hopes more families donate this year and help brighten up a child’s vacation.
âNormally (donors) don’t hear thanks from recipients, but I’m one of them, so thank you very much on behalf of all the kids,â Marquez said. “Believe me it means a lot so please, please give. It makes a difference.”
